Chimney Sweeping

What is chimney sweeping/cleaning?

IT is the removal of creosote off all the parts of a fireplace.  So the firebox, flue, and chimney are brushed and the debris is removed.  We use techniques that virtually leave no mess or odours during the process

WHY get a sweeping done?

Burning wood is a chemical process that leaves a by-product called creosote. A dirty, sticky, smelly black powder.  Creosote itself is highly flammable, and any substantial build up could create a high temperature chimney fire. Chimneys are built to withstand normal operating temperatures, but a fire on the chimney itself can easily damage the chimney and then through to the rest of the home.

When should I get a sweeping?

We recommend annual cleaning for normal, seasonal use. Or twice a year if you’re having fires more than twice week.

The BC fire code and most city bylaws state;

That the chimney or flue should be inspected annually, or with the addition of any appliance, and after any chimney fire. Also if the inspection shows more than 3mm (1/8th) buildup of creosote a cleaning is required.
